Not a poem, but a point: The Point
Have vaguest hint of recollection of seeing The Point TV movie when I was too young to remember, like just entering toddler stage is my guess. Saw it again as adult. It is charming and, pun or not, makes a valuable point. The record is delightful and makes for a fine twofer with Skidoo along with some excellent bonus tracks, including, speaking of TV songs, Girlfriend which Nilsson adapted into Best Friend famously used as theme for a family sitcom. Ages ago, someone then nearest and dearest to me, who had an avid interest in film, listened to this album with me. She wasn't much for sitting down and attentively experiencing a record start to finish, but she'd joined me in such an endeavor perhaps once or twice and we'd appreciate those rare occasions. We had recently stopped in a record store; they had a near minty copy of just about every Nilsson LP, cheap, and I, owning probably nothing of his on vinyl but maybe a rough condition Nilsson Schmilsson, happily bought them all. The cashier and perhaps proprietor could see we were pleased with this and, wanting to join in on the fun, placed them all into a cardboard shipping carton, gleefully took out one of those giant chisel tip permanent markers, and across the side of the box wrote

Why did you
"Why did you do it?" they asked
— "for the joy." she replied
"But instead?" they asked
— "And instead," she answered, "the wonder."

they were a couple
they were a couple known for helping the grieving . she was better at the actual flow of compassion, but he was great if the bereaved needed help with electrical; they were ol' fashion that way.
they were open to adventure , but she would lie and withhold so that made it cheating . she knew it wasn't any fun unless someone was hurt. way she saw it. suffering was like energy, or is it matter, or both, and does it even? she'd always chalk it up to being part of the process — "chalk it up" she'd say, to whoever she was cueing to queue to cue. he , on the other hand, when he held all that power in his hand, always figured —safety first. somewhat diminishing, or dispersing, or however energy gets away while persisting.
perhaps ironically, they both lacked a certain spark in the bedroom.

Wasp A Way
I believe it was the wasp between me and my laundry
what reminded me of having a crush on a shoplifter when I was a college teen
though I don't see the connection.
The insect — of the narrow-waisted suborder Apocrita of the order Hymenoptera / neither bee nor ant nor broad-waisted sawfly per the free encyclopedia — stayed finally away from my screen door and I gathered my clothes
off the lines
and I think
I successfully made it back
inside alone
.
