Another review for Newcity Stage:

We’re not too far into “Lay Me Down Softly” before we learn that the carnival where the play takes place isn’t the sort of traveling sideshow that features freaks; if there were any freaks, they’d probably steal the show as I suspect a coterie of select circus-type oddities would be a better draw than the cast of characters Billy Roche’s script provides…

The Sufficienable Fixes

The Sufficienable Fixes
put into place above
escalated tensions.

There their other revolution occurred.

Fretelo The Third: Greek, where are the minxes?
G: As their sire, that concern is mine.

Favorite sites to read poems

Under a tree;
beside a brook;
within an abandoned factory;

on a used car lot;
at a gathering of UFO enthusiasts;
atop a circus tent;

outside convention;
in other words;
off or around the trail;

and over the next day's dawning.

The seats red indeed

Went to see unjustifiably critically acclaimed Captain America sequel. Saw it in wholly unnecessary 3D, simply because that was next screening. At box office another gimmick was offered - they asked if I'd like to sit in the suggestively named D-BOX seating. I said, is that a seat which moves in mimicry of onscreen action? They said yes. I asked, is it going to make me feel like I'm being held by Scarlett Johansson? They said no. So I declined.

Satan, Uninspired

Satan was clearly uninspired when he created the "Rosemont Entertainment District." Consequently, it's one of his more devastating works.

Such Beauty So Nearly

Such beauty so nearly unendurable: Today she was revolving out while I was revolving in and her smile spun me around more than the door did.

Theater Review: A Place in the Woods/The Fine Print Theatre Company

A topical family drama that reaches its true heights in its comic moments, The Fine Print’s production of Erik Gernand’s “A Place In The Woods” is unassuming and refreshingly unpretentious…

The early spring evening turned ominously autumnal as I approached the holy stone building that houses City Lit Theater. Unfortunately nothing nearly as spooky transpired inside during City Lit’s

Theater Feature: David Ives' “Venus in Fur” at Goodman Theatre

Amanda Drinkall in "Venus in Fur"/Photo: Liz Lauren
“I like to leave a play behind,” says playwright David Ives. “This play feels very old to me. It’s like four plays ago already.” The play in question is Ives’ “Venus In Fur” and the show’s great success is the reason I bug him about it for the better part of an hour…
