Library Industries Fab Four Discography

After writing up the Beatles in Atlantis narrative, and the followup unCaptiol tale, we have finally arrived at Library Industries' very own standardized final faux fab discography. No narrative, no alternate universe, no end times narrowly averted nor met head-on— though that may await us any moment, as ever. Just the playlists. Mono & stereo editions pulling tracks as indicated in notes below cover art; reference mark for footnote on mono source appears before song title, stereo reference mark after song title.

Unlike aforementioned narrative discographies where nearly all the actual albums were significantly altered or replaced, here minimal changes have been made to the full-length LPs assembled by band and producer: two of the most revered LPs crafted by the fabs and George Martin do each get a song added, as does the one grand Capitol keeper that long ago entered core catalog. Beyond that, the Yellow Submarine LP is no more; and the three officially released attempts — none actually assembled by band and their producer — at compiling an album from the Get Back sessions are retired in favor of Library Industries' own best efforts. This leaves most of Past/Mono Masters. Bolstered by the strength of the amazing non-album singles, those selections are augmented by a few BBC, demo, & outtake tracks to form three new fab LPs.

01} Please Please Me aka Twist and Shout
The Please Please Me debut album slightly resequenced. Below left is alt. cover derived from Canadian LP; real UK art at right. For mono playlist, the Ringo drummed version is used; for stereo program, it's Andy White with Ringo on tambourine.

03} The Beatles' Third Album
First entry in accommodating the non-album tracks. Artwork repurposed from the second Capitol US album. She Loves You, for which no real stereo mix was ever made when master tapes were available, appears in the mono "album." The true stereo new performance / rerecording sung in German is used for stereo program. (Here we note that across all these playlists, one core catalog item gets the boot: Komm, gib mir deine Hand, which unlike Sie liebt dich is just an overdubbed version of the master recording of the English hit record.) For the mono BBC recordings, Library Industries has faked some really fake stereo for the stereo edition, in the Capitol tradition!

08} Rain aka Yes It Is… aka And Today aka …As Today
Singles, a selection recorded for US market, & three outtakes including pair of gems: the Kitten cover, and… the rock on, anybody! angular Ringo rocker. Speaking of cover… art… we've chosen our Rain spin on the Beatles '65 cover for this collection. The drawback is it shows 'em in 1964 and most of these recordings are from 1965 with latest from '66. However, though it's least interesting photo, since completing the trunk option we're thinking that may be way to go. Or maybe butcher sleeve is the original, replaced by slightly reworded trunk because uproar; or, other way around because boring! Or is simply Yes It Is the best pick? What's your choice? Let us know in the comments!
Here we get a little lax with the "mono" designation as certain selections are included there in fake stereo. For instance, the "mono" LP uses the snazzier, shorter edit of If You Got Trouble from canceled Sessions LP, which has always seemed more proto-New Wave and rocking-on to these ears.

11} Magical Mystery Tour
The sole Capitol keeper gets greater still, by George; that is, we've added a Northern Harrisong to this masterpiece as with Pepper's. Lyrically it's in keeping with psychedelic travelogue theme (thru space or time or state of being) that permeates these selections, making the EP + singles configuration always ring as much as or as more of a concept album than its ballyhooed predecessor. Mono edition utilizes the full-length eight minute film version of the added song, and a slightly extended, cold ending to the warmhearted closer. Although expanding by one song the Capitol LP, we're going with EP artwork.

~~•~~~note: intermission / bonus~~~•~~     With the Yellow Submarine LP deleted — two of its four "new" Beatles songs being available across the above augmented albums, and the other two to follow a couple of entries down — an entire side of George Martin material is omitted from the core Beatles catalog. Here, with all due respect, in lieu is a curated collection including that whole side, along with earlier Martin recordings of Beatles tunes, and one short unreleased track originally intended for the white album. Titled George Martin in Pepperland, it's a bit long for a single LP. So CD and tape only! The selections are listed below, shown reflecting the two cassette sides.

12} The Beatles
The eponymous 1968 double.
For mono edition, we've edited three tracks to conform with certain aspects of stereo mix:
• Don't Pass Me By is slowed almost all the way down to speed of stereo mix
• Bit of Gently Weeps stereo fadeout, including plaintive "yeah yeah yeah yeah…"
concluding vocals, folded to mono & flown in

13} The Beatles Again
Starting with the two remaining "new" Submarine songs & concluding with their last non-album b-side, it's the Beatles again. These two versions are best described as a mostly mono edition and a mostly stereo edition. Features custom Library I edit of an Esher demo: for Sour Milk Sea, most of the vocalized interlude from middle of song is removed, tightening it up & taking whole thing down to about three minutes. For stereo Old Brown Shoe, we use the remix from 2023 release of The Beatles 1967 - 1970 but with nearly entire first minute and closing approximately 40 seconds restored from 2009 Past Masters remaster.

14} Let Back and Get It B.
Instead of mono edition and stereo edition of same LP, as we've seen so far, here we present two distinct albums, using not just different mixes but unique performances of each song, and even a pair of pairs of different songs between them. The primary edition of the two is Let Back, Library Industries' unorthodox formulation of a Get Back album. Takes we've deemed best are used, including some edits made specifically for this compilation, and there's banter a-plenty, asides, live-in-studio ambience, with rooftop performances chosen when available. On other hand, Get It B. includes perhaps the second-best takes, utilizing no rooftop performances, with minimal chatter — in lieu of a mono mix, it's the all-indoors edition!

15} Abbey Road and Abbey Roadwork

Just like there's no dedicated mono mix of a Get Back LP nor Let It Be nor Let It Be… Naked in the real world Beatles discography, there's no dedicated mono Abbey Road LP. And thusly here, just as Let Back gets a differently titled secondary collection in lieu of a mono edition, so doth Abbey Road. Unlike the Get Back sessions, though, there ain't an abundance of extra takes to choose from. Here we enjoy alternate performances, not up to the perfection of the final LP, through when the Sun comes; then for Because and the medley finale, alternate mixes. Notably the medley is the rough "Long One" mix, here with an exclusive Library Industries twist: it concludes instead with The End remix from Anthology 3.

70} Let's At Sea
From the Beatles In Atlantis discography it's the setlist for the Beatles' underwater reunion benefit concert, a plea for peaceful relations between the surface world and Atlantis. Accompanied by Preston, in December 1970 the band — together again for first and only time since their breakup earlier in the year — perform current songs from their solo careers, none of which had yet been heard by the Atlanteans. The resultant live recording double LP Let's At Sea would be The Beatles' final entry in their unique Atlantis discography.

70} The Fab Former | Let It Down
From the unCapitol faux North America discography, though here improved by substituting Sing One For The Lord in place of Billy's All Things (Must) Pass. The premise? Apple switches to Warner for solo careers, and new label issues a double as part of their mail order budget Loss Leaders series! In actuality, it's a companion to Let's At Sea; unlike that one, it is decidedly not a best-of-first-solo-year collection. There are almost as many Ringo lead vocals as John solo recordings, with not much more from Paul. It is primarily a showcase for George's songwriting, even if the best songs from All Things Must Pass have already appeared in previous entries. Of particular note two unissued Beatles recordings from Get Back sessions sneak in.
Credited slyly on the spine to The Fab Former, at $2 this was a remarkable bargain by any name.

71} Various Apple Artists | Listen The Snow
A second & last solo years Loss Leader, again from unCapitol series, is our final entry in official Library Industries unofficial Beatles discography. Seems appropriate, as this feels about like end of that late Beatle feel. It's the complete compiled non-album single sides released or recorded in 1971. One deviation from original form: seeing as how in this discography this coexists with Let's At Sea, where the hit recording of It Don't Come Easy resides, here we can sub in the lively, faster rendition from The Concert for Bangladesh.
